Finding rockhounding spots was harder than I thought.
There were websites with thousands of locations - but they often led to private property or had become inaccesible…
My few favorite resources weren’t optimized to be viewed on a phone, either.
So I created this.
rockhoundingmap.com makes finding rockhounding locations easy - and I’ve driven over 60,000 miles to visit over 75 of them myself so far.
Many additional spots I haven’t been able to explore yet are available for you to browse too!
Carefully Chosen Locations
Checked against land maps, a “quality over quantity” selection helps point you towards spots with a higher likelihood of success.
Phone-Friendly
A clutter-free design allows pages to load faster in areas without great cell service.
Built To Save Your Time!
Sort between layers like paid dig sites and even unsuccessful locations to maximize your time to explore!

Me!
My name is Griffin, and I run a little YouTube channel called Third Planet Rocks surrounding my hobby of rockhounding. Look for my pop-up rock shop at the Raleigh, NC Farmer’s Market that goes by the same name!
To support the website, please consider checking out my weekly live sale. It’s on a fast-growing live auction app called on Whatnot. I frequently post new pieces I have collected from public digs, alongside pieces from around the world. Most of them are auctions starting at $1.
I hope my ongoing project helps create unforgettable adventures!
