Summary:
Five Mile Rock beach is exactly as the name implies. It’s beaches are seemingly endless. There is so much space and powerful water activity here to keep beautiful stones turning up on the beaches year after year. I’ve always found agates and beautiful porphyry here regardless of what time of the year I visited.
This spot can be accessed by any vehicle. When in the area, you will see many vehicles pulled off to the large shoulders of HWY 61 visiting the rock beaches near Grand Marais.

Many of the agates near Grand Marais had basalt portions still in them. But it tells a nice story of how agates break free from the host rock.

Some beautiful porphyry in the wild.

This may be an agate nodule, although it's unconventional. Eye agate?
