Summary:
Pronounced like “grash-it river”, this spot has some particularly stunning geology, especially underwater. Once submerged, you’ll discover what looks like an underwater washboard. Lake-tumbled stones are captured in the pockets of the smoothly worn bedrock making for some exceptional photography and videography opportunities here.
As for rockhounding, Gratiot River has plenty of fantastic finds to be made. The amygdaloidal basalt here is quite colorful, and the prehnite I found was large. Lake Superior Agates seem to be present, although few and far between. Large crowds frequent this spot in the Summer months, but for good reason. It’s downright beautiful here.

This one was very unique - I think this is some crazy looking rhyolite, but I'm uncertain.

I think this is a little tube agate, but there's a chance it was coral instead.

Fairly confident this is some pink & green prehnite.

A fantastic piece of amygdaloidal. This was the most colorful one I've ever found in Michigan.

Everyone knows green rocks are the coolest - epidote.
